Course Overview

  • This practical two-day workshop is designed to facilitate assessors who are currently using Exner’s Comprehensive System (CS) to make the transition to using the Rorschach Performance Assessment System (R-PAS) in applied settings and research. R-PAS is a replacement for the CS that fixes five well-known limitations of the CS and that also improves on it in other ways. R-PAS was created by psychologists who worked closely with John Exner from 1997 until he passed away in 2006 to identify CS limitations and help fix them. This was accomplished in the context of Exner’s Rorschach Research Council (RRC), which was a group of seven psychologists who met twice per year for weekend retreats that focused on making progress advancing the CS. This workshop focuses on the development of proficiency in coding and administration and provides a response process foundation to foster clearer interpretation of scores and understanding of respondents. Participants should have previous
    experience with Exner’s CS.

The Workshop begins with a broad focus on the Rorschach task and the type of data it provides, which provides a strong foundation for understanding administration, coding, and interpretation. After this, we will shift focus to delineate the key differences in administration, clarification, coding, score calculation, norms, and interpretation between the CS and R-PAS, which includes an introduction to the R-PAS website and all the resources and functions available there to account holders. Training in the subtleties of clarification and coding continue into the second day. The morning of the second day will be a cased-focus demonstration of coding, administration, and calculation of normed scores for
interpreted variables. On the afternoon of the second day, this same case will be interpretated.

During the workshop, participants should have a copy of Rorschach Performance Assessment System, Administration, Coding, Interpretation and Technical Manual (Meyer, Viglione, Mihura, Erard, & Erdberg, 2011). To best prepare for the R-PAS Basic Workshop, it is helpful if attendees read Chapters 1, 2, and 3 in the R-PAS Manual. It is available at the R-PAS website (www.r-pas.org). After registering for the workshop a 10% discount code will be forwarded to participants for use when purchasing the Manual or other tangible products. Also, all attendees are expected to obtain a free R-PAS.org account, so that R-PAS can provide you with two free online case protocols (to code a protocol and obtain normatively
referenced summary score results), one free Interpretive Guide (i.e., automated case interpretation), and one free administration application (i.e., an all-inclusive app to guide a complete administration, including the option for speech-to-text transcription).
